Artists, musicians and dancers will unite from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday for a free, all-day arts and entertainment event at Kalakaua Park in Hilo.

“Art in the Park” is a celebration to raise awareness of the power that art, music and dance have in people’s lives. It was organized by artists moved to act in a positive manner in the wake of the announcement by the federal government of plans to abolish the National Endowment for the Arts.

The many artists and groups who’ll present their work include:

• Pier Sircello, Max Belliard, Junior Hakkei, Mana Ho‘opai, Sarah Brinkman and Sonja Giardina of Center Stage Dance Alliance.

• Trina Nahm-Miho of Hawaii Community College.

• Bub Pratt of Kukuau Studios.

• Connections Public Charter School.

• East Hawaii Cultural Center.

• Puna Men’s Chorus.

• Big Island Dance Council.

• Grace Balkin, Young Music, The Maunuunu, Sisters of the Sacred Heartbeat, Vicky Robbins, Mimi Tincher and others.

The East Hawaii Cultural Center, across the street from the park, will be open during the event, and food and refreshments will be available from food trucks in EHCC’s parking lot.

“Everyone is invited to come and witness on a personal level how art, music and dance empowers individuals and entire societies and cultures at iconic Kalakaua Park, home of Hilo’s annual “Shakespeare in the Park” presentation,” said co-organizer Sircello of Center Stage Dance Alliance.
